Happy Pongal to all (especially to the yellow cows for mysore)

So, a few days ago there was a festival where the locals paint their cows yellow. This is the same festival that I was here for last year. I took a few photos of cows this year but not as many as last time…. (see my old post for more photos of cows if you need to see more cows). This year I decided to do a little bit more research on the festival, it is called Pongal and is celebrated by Tamils all around the world. Because South India is prime Tamil territory, the Pongal celebrations are rather special in Mysore as everyone paints their cows yellow and the town goes into festival mood for a few days. I am not 100% sure what the cows think of this, some of them look very proud of their yellow paint – others looked a bit pissed off. In fact, Jennifer and I were chased by this crazy cow who didn’t like having his photo taken!

Here are some more photos from this year, if you want to learn more about Pongal check out this website: www.pongalfestival.org
